Sculptural Fiber Art Collection by Jeanne Akita at Natuzzi Edition Southlake
Jeanne Akita is a sculptural fiber artist based in North Richland Hills, Texas, whose work merges ancient felting techniques with a painterly, contemporary vision. She creates intricate wall art and immersive organic forms that blend nature, fantasy, and emotion into tactile experiences. Using natural fibers such as Merino wool, silk, flax, and camel hair, each piece is hand-shaped with water and soap—crafted without stitching or adhesives. This deeply meditative and sustainable process reflects her commitment to both environmental consciousness and meticulous craftsmanship.

Her work has received national recognition, including the Plaza Art Fair Invitation Award (2024), Ann Arbor Original Art Fair Award of Excellence (2024), Saint Louis Art Fair First Place (2022), and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston Curatorial Award for Excellence (2022). She has also earned Best of Show in Fiber at the Sun Valley, Utah Arts Festival, and Kimball Art Festival. Her work was nominated by Fiber Art Now magazine in the September 2021 issue and featured in Ornament magazine for her participation in the Smithsonian Museum’s Craft Optimism event.

Currently, Jeanne is expanding her creative practice into mixed media, sculptural installations, and immersive environments that further push the boundaries of fiber as a contemporary art form.
